Reflective essay

Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring by Kim Ki Duk
In this movie, there is an old monk, and a young monk, the apprentice. The really good thing about this movie is that you don't have to be into religion to understand  this movie. The movie doesn't have a lot of talking and characters. The title is used to show the growing up of a young boy and shows a few valuable lessons on the way. The old monk and the apprentice lives on a floating temple, away from human. To be honest I didn't think I was going to make it through this movie because it didn't have a lot of talking and I think there were only 2~3 conversation in the part "Spring".
I have only watched the part "Spring."  In there the apprentice learns his lesson. First he starts to tie rocks around the animals which are fish, frog, and snake. The old monk sees all of his actions and punishes him by tying the apprentice to a rock and make him know what he did; killing the animals. I think it was a good idea to teach the apprentice like that because if the old monk just say don't do it ever again, he might do it again because he didn't know how the animals felt. Some might think that it might be too harsh, but then the apprentice might do it again and again.

We have all been punished for our parents for what we have done, but I think how you are punished decides your own personality. I think it does because if you keep doing something wrong, and don't get punished, you will think that is normal and keep doing it and it will make you a bad person. On the other hand if you do something wrong(anyone can make a mistake) and fix it you will become a better person.
I had a similar experience once, and I bet most of you have been thorough this situation. When I was in third grade there was this popular girl at school. She was really smart, pretty, and everyone liked her. But her problem was that she kept bullying people. No one said anything because she was popular. Then one day her friends didn't play with her and all of a sudden, she was the one who got bullied. Finally she knew her mistakes and she didn't bully anyone then on.
So in conclusion I think even though it might seem very harsh, I think punishing the children like the way the old monk did is a very good idea that all parents should do.

Ode to Sleep

Dear Sleep,

I have to ask you, why do you change your mind so often? When I don't want you to come to me late at night, you always do like you are teasing me. When you come, my eyelids feel like they are trying to carry thousands kilograms of metal. You make my body all of a sudden so tired and every part of my body aches like I have been running a marathon. Then, naturally, I trust you to wake me up before I go to school on the next day, but we have so much fun in my dreamland that we don't even know time passes so fast! This has been a question that I wanted to ask since when I was young, but why do you come to me when I don't want you, and do no come to me when I want to?
I understand you are very busy dealing with Earth, and I please forgive me if I have made you feel like what you are not, but I know deep down inside you , you are nice as a baby. See you tonight!!
Sincerely,
Sue

Wacky Web Tales

The Mummy

We thought our trip to the museum would be boring, but we were wrong. After we handed our cats to Brad Pitt at the door, we were led into the museum's bathroom. The first things I noticed were the mummy cases against the fan. Why were there mummy cases in the bathroom?
While we waited for our guide, Mr.Garrioch told us how the pharaohs always placed a large dinosaurs in their mummy cases to protect them from intruders. Victoria and I got a little dizzy hearing this. There were, after all, 172613133 mummy cases in the room with us.
Suddenly we heard a laughing sound coming from inside one of the mummy cases. “OMG!!” Victoria and I screamed at the same time.
“Nothing to worry about,” said Mr.Garrioch calmly. “I'm sure it's just the wind.” Just then one of the mummy cases flied open. Out  jumped an enormous dinosaurs covered with pizzas. Just as I was about to run from the room, the dinosaurs threw off the pizzas and howled, “April Fools!” It was Mr.Littlefield!
We had forgotten that it was April first, but I guess Mr.Garrioch and Mr.Littlefield had not.

Metafiction

“Mother, Why is our world pink?” Mily asked.
“Why do you ask, Milly?” said the mother.
“Today I found a picture on the ground and we had peach skin” said Milly.
“You know, Milly, when I was in 6th grade,it happened.Do you want to know about that day Milly?” her mother said.
“Okay!” Milly exclaimed

Today is a last day of the school. All of the sixth graders said "Goodbye." Today might be the last chance to play and talk with our friends. To celebrate the graduation, we decided to have a pajama party in Do Kyung's house.

Do Kyung's house was huge and beautiful like a castle. It had a big gate and garden full of flowers, like the house I saw in the comics. The inside of the house was more amazing. So we ran in to the house. We went to Do Kyung's room, and it was all pink! Do Kyung's room was a pink world! It was full of pink stuffs. A pink bed with pink pillow, pink dolls, pink bed, and pink wallpapers. It was all pink. They sat on a pink chair with a pink cushion. They wore pink clothes from Do Kyung's pink closet. They ate pink chocolate and drank pink orange juice in a pink cup. Time passed really fast. So, they slept in a huge pink bed all together.
Next day, they woke up. Surprisingly, their body was turned into pink. They were astonished and screamed. "Oh My God!!!!!!!! What happened to my body?!" They ran out of the house but the whole world was also pink. They were so shocked.
The fire was pink and the water was pink. People couldn't believe that the pink water was safe. So, nobody tried to drink the water. Long time passed and one day, an old man said "I will die anyway so, I'm going to drink the water." Then, the amazing thing happened! The old man became baby again.   So, everyone realized that this water makes people younger. Thus, many old men and women drank the pink water. They became the baby as many people expected. As the time went by, people from other place started to wondering, "Why the people from the pink world are all very young?" However, they can't find the secret and it became one of the mysteries that never solved for a long time.
"It's still kind of amazing how no one knows all this time, but I wondered if people don't get old and die, how will this society survive? Milly?" Her mother asked.
"I don't know mother, after all I'm only 9 years old..."
"Yes, of course dear, now go to sleep"
And she went of to sleep to her dreamland.

Chain Writing: You Were Always There For Me

It was a dark stormy night when she came to my house. It was pouring rain with lightning thundering. I was reading a book on my fluffy couch infront of the fire. Then I heard a soft knock on the door. Almost as if it was just a trick of wind passing by. I opened the door, but there was nothing. I tried to close the door, but as soon as I turned back, I heard soft, but sad meow. I realized that it was a black cat with shining blue eyes like sapphire. I felt pity for her and took care of her. She was the light of my life. I wasnt lonley anymore. Her favorite food was milk like every other cats liked. After I would come home, I always made the milk warm and served it to the cat. I never had a friend in my life. I was lonely everyday, and I never shared my secret with anyone else either. However when I was with this cat, I could be relieved. I would think and share my secret with her. I felt like it was going to stay with me forever, but my father failed in buisness and got really poor and had to leave you in my old home. I can't remember that feeing. It was very dark and rainy night, and when you were sleeping, I touched your fur one more time and left you alone in the house. I cried all night. and I really want to see you now.
Months later we move to a smaller house. Then yesteray, one really important event happened. After I came home after school, I saw a really same cat infront of the door. I couldn't believe it, and I was suprised a lot. It glare at me. I was startled. Then it ran away! I followed her. She was already gone. I asked if people saw him. Somebody said he saw her!

History Report- Week 2

This is my week 2 history report. It's kind of long, but it's fun!!!

Greetings everyone! My name is Sue and today, I’m going to talk about English words. Especially I’m going to talk about figure of speeches, riddles and finally, Shakespeare
First of all, I will talk about figure of speeches. Figure of speeches are when you say one thing but mean another. I will give you some examples. First, “Kick the bucket,” It basically means to die. In the middle ages a person might have tried to commit suicide by standing on a bucket then tying a rope around their neck with the end of the rope attached to the ceiling above. When they kicked the bucket away, they hanged themselves. Well I think because I’ve never tried to hang myself!
Second, “Done in cold blood.” It means to be done with no feeling.  It is said for thousands of years, people believed that your blood temperature controls your temper. That’s where the “cold blood” came from. So ancient people thought that cold-blooded people had no temper. If a cold-blooded person harmed you they did it in a calm, cruel and calculating manner.
This is actually salt
Third, “Not worth your salt”. In Roman times salt was a rare and precious mineral-like gold. So salt was money. If people say they didn’t get their salt, it means they didn’t get their pay. Salt comes from a Latin word and people today are still paid a salary- a word really meaning salt. Often figure of speeches were from another country like Greece. Most words of English are from Latin too.
Secondly, I will talk about riddles. First let me start with a good riddle.
Often I go to war with the waves and fight against the wind, I fight against both of them when I’m buried by the foam and go to seek the earth. My homeland is foreign to me. If I stay still then I am mighty in the battle. If I flee from their pulling then I have failed. They want to carry off the thing that I keep safe. I defeat them if my tail hold strong and the stones of the earth hold me up firmly. What is my name??? Do you get it? Anyone?? It’s an anchor.
Riddles are one of the oldest word games, the book says. Personally, I love riddles a lot. Riddles are like a question that needs to be solved using your brain and reasoning apart from mere guessing. Riddles use several strategies that give them a certain twist, which is not all that easy to guess. These days, people think riddles are old fashioned so they don't use them anymore. I think people should use more riddles.

Finally, I will talk briefly about Shakespeare. Shakespeare was born on April 26, 1564 and it is assumed that he was born on April 23, 1564. In 1582 at age eighteen, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. Shakespeare left Stratford, where he lived for London to make his fortune roughly fours years later. Shakespeare headed to London sometime in 1586. By 1595, Shakespeare was successful to be named as one of the more senior members of the Lord Chamberlain's men, an acting company that performed frequently before court. By 1596, Shakespeare was so successful as a playwright that his family was finally granted a Coat of Arms, which amongst other things allowed Shakespeare to call himself a "gentleman".

Romeo and Juliet
Although William Shakespeare is recognized as one of literatures greatest influences, but very little is actually known about him. Surprisingly for the world's greatest playwright, people actually know very little about Shakespeare's life. I think for me, before I read this, I really didn't know about him, accept his plays such as Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer-Night's Dream, The Merry Wives of Windsor, etc.
Shakespeare
The Shakespeare we read today might be a fake though. Amazingly, no original manuscripts survive reflecting the fact that many of these manuscripts were written purely for performance and were not regarded as pieces of literary work. There is also no general evidence on when all the plays were first performed. It might surprise readers to know that many of Shakespeare's plays, especially in the experimental period were hardly original, borrowing plot features from earlier plays. Still, borrowing plots and taking liberties with historical facts was not uncommon in Shakespeare's time and his skill for language, imagery, and his creative adaption of myth and history have set Shakespeare apart as the greatest playwriting.
